The Kirkwood Training and Outreach Services Center:
A Model for Creative, Cooperative Partnership
| The history of our center is a case study in amicable, open communications and a shared search for creative solutions. The Kirkwood/AEGON USA partnership actually goes back a couple of decades with job training and skill-building as the company grew into one of the leading employers and community stewards in Iowa. That partnership deepened with the opening of the AEGON/Information Technology Center, a shared building on the main Kirkwood campus that allowed the college to expand badly needed computer labs while providing AEGON with a secure, dependable data processing facility for its North American operations. |
|
In the late 1990s the company and Kirkwood discussed creative uses for its Armar Plaza office complex. Expansion of company facilities in northeast Cedar Rapids left the building vacant while Kirkwood saw critical needs for computer, workforce training and meeting space in that part of the metro area. Discussions became ideas and plans became a reality.
In late 2001 the Kirkwood Training and Outreach Services Center was dedicated, providing 32,250 |

| feet of meeting rooms, conference areas and computer-assisted training rooms open to a wide variety of uses and needs. At the same time, AEGON has a ready “business resumption center” that can quickly respond to relocation needs that may arise at any of its Cedar Rapids area operations. In an age when the unthinkable has become possible, AEGON USA and Kirkwood are prepared to respond if the need arises.
Today the KTOS Center serves thousands of workforce training and community support functions every year to the betterment of our economy and our neighbors all year long. We invite you to visit this unique partnership facility today. |
