Using Project Lead The Way's (PLTW) project-based curriculum, students learn to problem solve real-world engineering challenges through a nationally recognized, pre-engineering program. Prepares for the rigor of two- and four-year engineering and engineering-related programs.

PLTW alumni are studying engineering and technology in greater numbers than the national average, with a higher retention rate in college engineering, science, and related programs than non-PLTW students.

EGT-400 | PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design | 3 credits

Examines the engineering design process through application of math, science and engineering standards to hands-on projects. Students design solutions to problems using 3D modeling software and create an engineering notebook.

EGT-410 | PLTW Principles of Engineering | 3 credits

Explores engineering topics including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Develops problem solving, research and design skills and strategies for design process documentation, collaboration and presentation.

EGT-420 | PLTW Digital Electronics | 3 credits

Provides a foundation in electrical engineering, electronics and circuit design. Covers combinational and sequential logic, and circuit design tools including logic gates, integrated circuits and programmable logic devices.

EGT-450 | PLTW Computer Integreated Manufacturing | 3 credits

Teaches robotics and automated manufacturing concepts by creating three-dimensional designs with modeling software, then producing actual models of student designs.

EGT-460 | PLTW Civil Engineering & Architecture (CEA) | 3 credits

Explores the design and construction of residential and commercial building projects. Investigates careers in the design and construction industry. Introduces concepts involved in building design and construction including land use, codes, utilities and services, sustainable design, building components and systems, structural design, storm water management, and cost estimation. Integrates STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) principles and teaches Revit, an Autodesk 3D design software for course projects.

CIS-450 | PLTW Computer Science Principles | 3 credits

Develops computational thinking, generates excitement for career paths utilizing computing, and introduces professional tools to foster creativity and collaboration. Develops programming expertise and explores the functionality of the Internet. Offers projects and problem solving associated with computing including application development, visualization of data, cybersecurity and simulation.

The Kirkwood PLTW Academy provides students with a jump-start to earning an associate's, bachelor's, and/or graduate degree in college majors including, but not limited to: Electronics, Engineering Technology, and engineering in a wide variety of disciplines.
