RECRUIT — A NEW FACE OF STUDENT APPLICATIONS

Recruit is a Microsoft customer relationship management (CRM) product that integrates with Colleague. It has two components: 1) Front End-the web-based student-facing screens, and 2) Back End-the CRM screens for staff.

Front End: Historically there were two separate admission applications, one for domestic students and another for international students; the technology behind Recruit combines the past applications into one. As students complete the application online, questions display or not based on their responses. Also, students create an account to complete the application so they can log back in later to finish if they get interrupted. Students can also use Recruit to register for campus visit events.

Back end: This allows the Admissions and International Offices to enter into one central location all the prospects that the recruiters come into contact with. It also stores all of the applications for admission, which allow the recruiters to view who has an incomplete application so they can contact the student to assist. The possibilities for communication are endless. The next phase of the implementation will involve more in-depth training this summer.

INFORMER

Informer is a live ad-hoc data reporting tool which is linked directly to Colleague. It was implemented as a replacement for query builder and is also proving to be a valuable tool for our end users. Its drag and drop capabilities allow the end user to create reports without needing to write any code. Informer can pull lists of students, courses, financial data, and more based on the parameters selected directly from files in Colleague. Security is in place restricting access to protected data such as ssn, payroll, student and employee PII and access is granted on an as-needed basis. Requests for access can be submitted via TeamDynamix or the Service Desk.

EAGLECARD

EagleCard is the official Kirkwood Community College identification card for Students, Staff, and Faculty. It provides easy access to the Library, the Micheal J Gould Recreation Center, computer labs, Kirkwood sporting and entertainment events, and more.

With the EagleCard, funds can be managed for meal plans, print quota, Café Dollars, gift cards, and used at Cedar Rapids main campus food services, Kirkwood bookstores and EagleTech.

Deposit currency onto the card at any EagleCard Deposit Center or online at http://eaglecash.kirkwood.edu.

Deposit centers are located in: Second Floor, Kirkwood Hall (Cashier), The EagleCard Office (131 Nielsen Hall), Iowa City campus (Deposit Machine/PHIL). Deposit Centers accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover. Cash, credit card and personal check deposits are accepted at the EagleCard Office in 131 Nielsen Hall.

Students can receive their EagleCard as soon as they are enrolled in a current or future credit class at Kirkwood. Employees of the college can receive their EagleCard as soon as they receive their first paycheck from the college. An EagleCard account will automatically become inactive when you are no longer registered for classes, or the last day of your employment. However, your EagleCard is automatically reactivated if you ever reregister for classes, so keep your card if you plan to re-enroll in the future. Replacement cards are $10.

The EagleCard is locked after it has not been used for 6 months so contact the EagleCard Office at 131 Nielsen Hall if you experience any problems or check out the website: EagleCard - FAQ.

STUDENT-FOCUSED INNOVATIONS

Two student-focused innovative projects that will debut this summer will target one of the largest themes coming from both the Technology Strategic Plan and Foundations of Excellence first year student experience: the category of improved information and communications for students.

The first is a student mobile application that works on iOS and Android devices. This will allow students all the functionality of a PC in the palm of their hands. They can schedule classes, pay bills, receive important notifications and use the app as a wayfinding device to make it to class on time. We have a cross functional team working on this project from Student Services, Marketing and IT. The possibilities are very exciting, we consulted with a group of students on what they would like to see and learned a lot from them as well as getting the resounding positive affirmation that they see this as a great asset to their experience here at Kirkwood. Take a sneak peek at some of the Kirkwood Student Mobile App functionality.

The second project fits together with the first. It is a mobile-friendly student portal. The big idea behind this is to simplify and modernize our web presence for student-related content and solutions. The overall goal is to have the same content and information accessible on the student mobile app as exists on the mobile friendly student portal. This will ensure continuity in the online experience for the student. This initiative also has members from Student Services, Marketing, Students and IT making up the team.

Fun Facts

I enjoy spending time with family, being outdoors, and about anything to do with computers and computer security.

Favorite Service Story

I have really enjoyed seeing, in my short time here, how everyone pulls together time and again to help each other and solve problems. From working with Marines in remote areas of Jordan to behind a desk at Kirkwood it is wonderful working with such great people!

Favorite App.

Sysinternals Process Explorer. I am not sure how many times this tool has helped me figure out which program is preventing me from deleting a file, ejecting a flash drive, and more.

Team Dynamix

As you likely know, the IT department changed our ticketing system in November from SchoolDude to Team Dynamix. This means if you submit a ticket through SchoolDude, we may not receive it in a timely manner to resolve your issue. If you need to submit a Team Dynamix ticket, you can reach this system by going to Applications in KIN and clicking on IT Request. After entering your normal K# and password, click on Submit a Ticket. This will give you access to our Service Catalog, where you can navigate to the type of ticket you need to submit, or use the search box in the top right corner to find your ticket type. If you have any questions in how to submit a ticket, you can always call the Service Desk at x1264.

Email Migration

Over the last few months, we have been migrating email accounts to an upgraded server. This process has been largely completed on the server side, but there may be some small changes still required on the user side as a result of this upgrade. If you are unable to log in to your Outlook Web Mail, there are a couple potential issues you could encounter. First, make sure you are navigating to Kirkwood Webmail (https://webmail.kirkwood.edu). This link is also on the front page of KIN. If you have a saved bookmark, make sure it is updated. Second, you may need to clear your local browser cache. You can push Ctrl-Shift-Del in most web browsers access this process. If you are unable to log in to your Kirkwood mail on your phone or other personal device, please double check the Server setting in your device and make sure it says webmail.kirkwood.edu. This automatically updated for many people, but may need to be manually adjusted on some devices. If you are unable to log in to the Outlook program on your computer, it is possible your account needs to be manually configured for the new server. This was an automatic process for most users, and we have already taken care of this on most of the computers that need it. If you aren't sure and are having issues logging in to the Outlook program, feel free to call the Service Desk at x1264

Microsoft Office

Do your Microsoft Office products sometimes fail to open or frequently crash? We are currently trying to standardize our Microsoft Office products in an effort to alleviate this issue for some users. If you have encountered this issue and log in to multiple computers, please contact the Service Desk at x1264 and let us know that you are having issues and which computers you access. We will have a technician investigate this issue and make sure that both your computer and any classroom computers you access have the same, up to date version of Microsoft Office.
