Over the span of two years, Kirkwood Community College’s Cybersecurity and Compliance program equips participants with both foundational technical skills and complimentary concepts including Governance, Risk, and Compliance. Kirkwood is the affordable option! We offer more than $3 million in scholarships every year. 

Graduates of the Cybersecurity and Compliance program will be able to:

  1. Understand and apply fundamental concepts of cybersecurity including various network security methodologies, protocols, and architectural concepts to establish and maintain secure cyber environments. 
  2. Design, analyze, and manage secure network infrastructures utilizing a robust understanding of networking hardware, protocols, and security principles to safeguard against cybersecurity threats.
  3. Implement and manage secure operating and network systems, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to data security and cybersecurity.
  4. Develop and implement cybersecurity risk management strategies, creating and executing incident response and recovery plans to mitigate the impact of security breaches and incidents.
  5. Navigate and apply legal and ethical principles in cybersecurity practices, ensuring adherence to data protection laws, regulations, and organizational compliance requirements.
  6. Utilize various cybersecurity technologies and tools effectively for monitoring, detection, mitigation, and prevention of cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of information assets.
  7. Communicate cybersecurity concepts, strategies, and issues effectively to a range of stakeholders, and develop comprehensive documentation to detail and support cybersecurity policies, procedures, and incidents.

Online Option

Majority of coursework will be delivered online. Some on-campus time may be required.

Information security analysts plan and carry out security measures to protect an organization’s computer networks and systems. According to the U.S. Bureau for Labor Statistics, employment of information security analysts is projected to grow 32% from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations.

Students in Kirkwood's Cybersecurity and Compliance program are encouraged to join the Kirkwood chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA). With 45,000 members in more than 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico, as well as an international presence in China, Haiti and Peru, BPA has the ability to enhance student participation in professional, civic, service and social endeavors.

BPA is one of eight recognized members of the National Coordinating Council for Career and Technical Student Organizations (NCC-CTSO). CTSOs are co-curricular groups that help students in career and technical education programs further their knowledge and skills by participating in activities, events, and competitions.

Our mission is to prepare students with information technology and workplace communication skills to deliver user support services exhibiting strong critical thinking, problem solving, active listening and best customer service practices.
