Retirement can be a traumatic time in an individual’s life since permanent departure from a job is an event of personal and social significance. Retirement is a challenge that, as a process, influences the individual’s available resources, expectations, life patterns, role, and status. As a recipient of the Endowed Chair Award, I conducted in-depth literature research review on life satisfaction in retirement resulting in identifying core and major themes of retirees who reported satisfaction in their retirement. In addition, I will share how this research has helped me implement my own retirement planning.
