Bio: Dianne Gregory, Dean of AISD, holds degrees in English Literature and is former full-time English faculty, instructional design manager, and administrator at other institutions. A native Iowan, Dianne has lived and taught in a number of states and cities and loves traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Bio: Kristina began her journey at Kirkwood in 2003 as a work-study student in the department. she was hired on full -time in 2005, and she has been with the office ever since. Over the years, Kristina has taken on a variety of roles within the department. Currently, she supports the Instructional Designers in their efforts to assist new instructors and collaborates closely with Professional Development and Professional Renewal. Outside of work, Kristina enjoys spending quality time with her family and working on puzzles.

Bio: Alan came to instructional design through instruction. After teaching Mandarin Chinese for several years, and incorporating technology into the classroom, he found helping instructors learn the tools to navigate their own teaching profession both interesting and rewarding. When not puzzling out solutions or playing with Talon data, you might find him photographing a backyard prairie planting or helping out at Moss, a family-owned plant shop in Czech Village.

Bio: Mike is an instructional designer at Kirkwood Community College in the Academic Innovation, Strategy, and Design department. In addition to providing instructional design support for faculty (in any modality), Mike advocates for and promotes competency-based education (CBE) initiatives across the college. Mike has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Luther College. He has worked in the field of education for his entire career. Before joining the team at Kirkwood 9 years ago, he spent 15 years as a high school math and physics teacher and 3 years as a test development associate at ACT, Inc. In his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, taking pottery classes, golfing, and watching Chicago Cubs baseball.

Bio: Yasemin Onder is an experienced instructional designer specializing in accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and digital course design. Currently in ABD status for her PhD at NIU, she brings deep expertise and academic insight to her work as an instructional designer. She helps educators create inclusive learning environments that address diverse student needs and is passionate about using innovative strategies to enhance teaching and learning.

Bio: Laura Yost obtained a B.A. in Communications (Iowa State University), an M.A. in History (Iowa State University), and a Ph.D. in History (University of Nebraska-Lincoln). After teaching Cultural Studies and History for 17 years, she transitioned into her current role as an Instructional Designer. One her areas of focus is generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), which she has written on, as well as discussed in webinars and at national conferences.

Bio: Emily earned her BA and MA in Communication Studies from Northern Illinois University and was soon hired by Kirkwood as an adjunct faculty member and Instructional Designer. Emily joined the faculty full-time in 2019 and now serves as the Faculty Development Specialist, coordinating and facilitating professional development opportunities and supporting faculty with teaching and learning. She has presented at several conferences and facilitates trainings on topics such as OERs, effective online/hybrid teaching, course design, building connections with students, and inclusive teaching strategies. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, cats, running, reading, and doing puzzles.
