The faculty and staff of the Arts & Humanities department invite you to visit the Iowa Hall Art Gallery, and experience the visual arts at the heart of main campus, through our regularly curated exhibits.

The annual Kirkwood Art Student Showcase celebrates the work of current Kirkwood students. Many forms of art are showcased, including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, glass, digital art, and more.

March 3 – April 4, 2025
Artist Reception: 5 to 7 p.m. on March 13
Free and open to the public.

Kirkwood's High School Art Invitational showcases the artistic talent of local high school art students. Exemplary artwork from a variety of media will be on display, from 2D and 3D art to digital and video works.

Surface Symphony: Recent Works

Artist Reception with Ali Hval — 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30
Free and open to the public.

Ali Hval is a visual artist living and working in Iowa City. She is currently a lecturer in painting and drawing in the School of Art, Art History, and Design at the University of Iowa.

Born in Sacramento, California, Ali was the 2022 Stuart Artist-in-Residence at South Dakota State University, and was a 2020 resident at the Chautauqua School of Art. She has exhibited her work across the country, including at Ceysson y Bénétière in New York City, Atlantic Gallery in New York City, and South Bay Contemporary in Los Angeles. She has also exhibited at the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) in Boulder, Colorado. She has had mentions in New York Jewelry Week, Create! Magazine, and The New Yorker.

Ali has received grants from the Iowa Arts Council as well as from the Windgate Fellowship by the Center of Craft, Creativity, and Design in Asheville, North Carolina.

Ali was recently awarded the 2024 – ‘25 Iowa Artist Fellowship by the Iowa Arts Council.

Kirkwood Observes Summer Hours

Monday, May 19 through Friday, Aug. 8. 

Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday, campus offices closed*

*Most campus offices will follow summer hours during this time. Please note that some areas—like Facilities & Public Safety and The Hotel at Kirkwood Center—will operate on a different schedule. Summer classes and events will be held as scheduled.

Please note: If you visit the Iowa Hall Art Gallery between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and the gallery appears closed, please call the Arts & Humanities office at 319-398-4913. We will be happy to open the gallery for you.
Iowa Hall Gallery is free and open to all. Hours are subject to change.
