Apply For An Internship

Prior to application, students should meet with their high school counselor to determine their readiness for the program. Review "Essential Functions and Minimum Requirements." Refer to the Student Handbook  Appendix A for more information. Applications are complete when the student form is submitted, parent/guardian and school has approved, and teacher recommendation is received. Applications must be complete by the deadline for the student to move forward to the interview process. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor the status of their application on their WLC Dashboard.

While WLC staff consider all completed applications, not all applicants will receive an internship or their first choice of internship site.

Step 1: Obtain Your References

  • Before you start, identify and speak to your references. Ask for their permission, and obtain their correct email addresses and allow enough time for them to complete the process.
  • Your personal reference should be a non-related adult whom you have known outside of school and who can vouch for your character and work ethic.
  • Your teacher reference should be from your current high school, should know your abilities, and can speak to your academic strengths.
  • Make your references aware these requests may drop into Junk or SPAM folders.

Step 2: Complete Your Application

  • If you have never completed a job shadow or internship, create your student account under "New User".  If you have previously completed a job shadow or internship, log in under "Returning User".
  • Make sure all email and cellphone numbers are accurate.  Use an email that you check on a regular basis.
  • Student, complete your portion of the application first.  Make sure that you include accurate information, proper spelling and grammar, and use complete sentences.  This application will be shared with your interview team and potential business hosts, so it should be a true reflection of your efforts.
  • If an internship is not available in your area of interest, select Workplace Learning Connections-Site Under Development.  In the Special Request box, be sure to include as much detail as possible (ie, business name, contact person, contact phone or email address).
  • Check out "Professionalism Module 1: Applications" for more information.
  • After you have completed your application, check for updates on your Dashboard.  It is your responsibility to check your Dashboard to ensure timely responses from your parent /guardian and references.  If they have not received referral requests, ask them to check their Junk or SPAM folders.

Step 3: After You Submit

  • An approval request will be sent to your parent/guardian email.  Be sure to check Junk or SPAM folders.  Your parent/guardian must complete their approval before your application continues on to your teacher reference and school approval.
  • Once your parent/guardian approves, your teacher will receive a link to complete their reference.  Be sure to check Spam and junk mail folders.
  •  Once your parent/guardian approves, approval can be completed by your high school and references.
  • Applications are complete when the student form is submitted, parent/guardian and school has approved, and teacher recommendation is received.  Applications must be complete by the deadline for the student to move forward to the interview process.  It is the student’s responsibility to monitor the status of their application on their WLC dashboard.
