Culture, Communication, and Human Behavior

Understanding People, Strengthening Communities

In today’s interconnected world, the ability to understand people, communicate effectively, and think critically about culture and society is essential in nearly every field. Through the study of human behavior, cultures, societies, and communication, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and interpersonal skills that help them better understand individuals, groups, and communities. These skills prepare students to work effectively with diverse populations and adapt to a variety of professional environments, including education, social services, counseling, communication, public service, business, human resources, criminal justice, and community leadership.

Whether students transfer to a four-year institution to continue their education or enter the workforce, Kirkwood’s courses help build the communication, critical thinking, and cultural awareness skills needed for success. Through engaging classes and supportive faculty, students explore how people connect, make decisions, shape communities, and understand the world around them.
